Rachel Gordon, a junior at Berlin High School, has been selected to sing in the prestigious 2009 New York All-State Chorus. She traveled to Rochester to participate in the Winter Conference festival from December 3-6. Rachel was selected from among thousands of students state-wide who competed in the New York State School Music Association’s All-State auditions last spring. She is the first vocalist from Berlin High School to earn this honor.
Rachel is an alto and has been a member of the Berlin choral program since the sixth grade. She has participated in the Rensselaer All-County music festivals each year and was selected for the 2009 Zone 7 Area All-State Chorus which performed on November 21 in Saratoga Springs. Rachel has also won lead roles in productions of both the Berlin Middle School and High School Drama Clubs.
An outstanding student, Rachel is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to study architecture in college. She is Vice President of the Student Council and plays soccer for both the Berlin Varsity Girls team and the Brunswick Soccer Club.
The All-State Chorus program includes classic works by Brahms, Haydn and Randall Thompson and by contemporary composers Sid Robinovitch, Eric William Barnum and Moses Hogan. Rachel has been coached for her auditions and festivals by her chorus teacher, Ms. Jean Kirsch.
Rachel is the daughter of Scott and Theresa Gordon of Stephentown.
