George Is Taken Unwell

Saturday, August 7, 1852: Some showery, I and Irish John hoed and weeded in the garden, and I paid Irish John one dollar and at night he went to Lebanon to get his shoes mended and stayed all night. Today I took up a note of 46 dollars and gave a new note of 30 dollars and I paid the balance, 18 dollars and 37 cts to Henry Campbell.
Monday: I went and got Alexander Ostander two seated one horse wagon for to go to Troy, and today John F. went to Pittsfield and carried twelve bushel potatoes to Stern’s Factory on a contract at 75 cts per.
Tuesday: Today John F. took my horse and A. Ostrander’s wagon and carried his aunt Miriam Campbell and his cousin Henry Campbell to Troy to take the cars to go west, they all stayed in Troy tonight to Congress Hall. I gave my two daughters 25 dollars to pay their expenses. Today Geo P. and hired help worked on the Maxon farm. Today the widow Freelove Wylie came to stay with my wife while my two daughters were gone their journey. Tonight I am taken quite unwell.
Wednesday: I am quite unwell, so much that I was confined to my bed, I was taken a puking and pain across my bowels. This morning Geo P. walked over to Alonzo Rodgers and paid 25 cts for a box of Herrick’s pills and I took four of said pills and they puked me. This afternoon James Runnals helped Irish John draw in hay that got caught out yesterday and got wet.
Thursday: I remain unwell but better than I was yesterday. This afternoon my two sons and Irish John got in hay.
Thursday: I remain unwell and lame and take more of Herrick’s pills. This forenoon John F. cradled oats on the Rodgers farm and John Merrils cradled all day towards house rent. This forenoon Geo P. and Irish John got in the last of my hay.
Saturday: I remain unwell. Today Geo P. went to Lanesborough pond fishing in company with others, he got but a few fish.
Tuesday: I am better of my lameness, I helped unload two loads of oats. Irish John cut briars where we are to build a wall. Today we drew cord wood from off the hill with John F. ox team and sled. I helped some but I am lame. Today Geo P. went to commencement to Williams town Colleges. Today quite warm.
Friday: Today Geo P. not well. He said that he would ride to Pittsfield to his Uncle Jay Wylie’s and stay tonight.
