HFCS 2009-10 Girls Varsity Basketball Preview

December 4, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Gary Danforth
Hoosick Falls Central School varsity girls basketball Coach Kerry Branigan and her team opened their 2009-10 season last Monday night, November 30, at their River Road gymnasium when they hosted powerhouse Hoosic Valley Central School. Branigan, at the helm of HFCS for her second season, has twelve players on the varsity roster. Alexis Hagadorn, Alyson Schneider, Emily Wilwol, Erin Shea, Jenna Priore, Becca LaPorte, Melody Mentiply, Samantha Skott, Frankie Pearson, Shelby Jones, Clarissa Mango and Danielle Insco should see plenty of action. The Panthers will play an eighteen game slate this year. They will face traditional WASAREN League schools Cambridge, Greenwich, Stillwater, Schuylerville, Granville, Brittonkill-Tamarac and Hoosic Valley. Also, HFCS will host Berlin Central School in the first round of the Hoosier Holiday Basketball Tournament on Monday, December 28. Game time will be 4:30 pm as the two varsity girls games precede the two varsity boys games.
HFCS should have their hands full versus Hoosic Valley in their home opener as the Indians have won several league titles in the past few seasons along with advancing in sectional and regional play.
Rebounding From Afar:
Pearson, a freshman, may be at the point for HFCS. Pearson, cat quick, was also the goalie on this year’s Panther field hockey team which made it all the way to the state semi-finals.
