What better gift than the 2010 Historical Society Calendar with vintage photographs of people, places and things in Stephentown. The photos were solicited last spring as part of the Town’s celebration of its 225th Anniversary.

A myriad of wonderful old photos were submitted and judges selected 12 for the calendar. Each calendar page is 8.5” 11”, so your spiral-bound calendar opens up to a full 11” 17”. They are printed with a four-color process on acid-free, heavy cardstock with blocks big enough to write your dates in and important community dates pre-printed. The price of the calendar is $15.
Also available is a commemorative ornament depicting the Vanderbilt House, accurately depicted in gleaming brass. It comes in a red, velvet lined gift box containing a short history of the building which was originally a railroad hotel. This custom, photo-etched collectible is made in the USA and costs $10.
Supplementing a collection of blank notecards depicting the Rutland Railroad station and historic scenes in Garfield, the Historical Society as part of the 225th Anniversary celebration, created new notecard sets this year illustrating three other historic buildings of Stephentown. The three designs are reproduced on quality card stock from original artwork. The Vanderbilt House watercolor was painted by Lillian Dette of Stephentown. The Cranston Mansion, built around 1850 by Hiram Cranston, keeper of the New York Hotel, is depicted surrounded by autumn splendor in an oil painting by Julie Cranston of Discovery Bay, CA. Finally, the Stephentown Hotel, built in the fashionable Second Empire style in the 1870s is depicted in a pencil drawing by Richard Fiske of New Lebanon.
The cards are sold in boxes of twelve, four of each design. The cost is $10.
225th Anniversary T-shirts are still available. These are good quality 100% preshrunk cotton shirts in robins’ egg blue with “Commemorating 225 Years – Stephentown, NY – 1784-2009” printed on the front and “The Only Stephentown On Earth” on the back. Prices are $15 for Adult sizes (S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL) and $10 for Youth sizes (S [4-6], M [8-12], L [14-16]).
All items are available at the Heritage Center (518-733-6070) on Garfield Road, open Fridays from 1 to 4 pm. Order forms are available on the website (stephentown-historical.org). Notecards can also be purchased at Sykes Store, the Split Ends Hair Salon and at the Stephentown Memorial Library. Individual cards are only sold at the Heritage Center and are $1 each.
