Letter To The Editor – Berlin Lumber Purchase – Let’s Move Ahead

December 11, 2009 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:

As a Berlin resident of 30 years, I am proud of the recent direction our community has taken under the guidance of our Town Supervisor and our Town Board. Rob Jaeger has really pulled things together and set us on the correct path leading into the future. After years of “business as usual,” it has been difficult for some folks to accept many of the new regulations and for that matter some increased fees for services, but this is what the new millennium is about. We can’t lag behind while other communities move ahead. He’s done an inspiring job.
Now, with his latest concept concerning the possible acquisition of the former Berlin Lumber site as a new Town center, to house many activities such as Town Garage, Town Board meetings, etc,. etc., Rob has really shown us what a creative administration is all about. If the numbers work out, and this proposal does go through, how proud we can all be as we and other county residents drive by a new BERLIN TOWN CENTER, a venue not only for Town business needs but also a potential site for athletic events, musical presentations, private weddings, graduation parties, youth programs – all potential money makers for the Town. Petersburgh, for instance, is to be commended for the newly refurbished Veterans Memorial Community Center where concerts, cafe nights and youth activities are now taking place.
Now we in Berlin can have something to benefit our community as well. Sure, it will require a financial investment, but that’s what the Town Board will have to decide upon as well as we, the tax payers, via the referendum. I’m really excited, and I hope others are also about the direction our Town is taking.
Thanks to Rob Jaeger and the Town Board.
