Letter To The Editor – Berlin Lumber Purchase – Think Of The Future

December 11, 2009 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor,

In regards to the article  – “Berlin at the Crossroads” I would like to comment on a few things.
I am in favor of purchasing the Berlin Lumber property.  Buying this property would be a great investment for both the Berlin and Cherry Plain communities.  I see this as an opportunity to get more involved with the youth in and around both areas.
There would be more room to park.  When the parking lot is full at the Berlin Fire House and there is an emergency call going out – where are the rescue squad and volunteer fireman supposed to park? It is difficult to attend meetings due to the lack of spaces to park in town. More people would be able to attend Town Board meetings, and we could all discuss changes that are happening or need to happen in and around Berlin.
We should have a nice place for family/community picnics, a place to exercise and maybe shoot some hoops with our kids and neighbors.
It’s time to look to the future and not to the past. It’s time to move forward and bring Berlin up to where it should be.  When there is more community involvement, the Town will progress.  Let’s see the numbers.  Maybe a full outside assessment should be done to insure fair taxes as well.
Lastly, if the Town doesn’t purchase the property – who will?
