Marie I. Snyder

Berlin – Marie I. Loker Snyder, 80, of Mill Street, Berlin, NY, died on Thursday evening, December 3, 2009, at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT.
Born in Berlin on July 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Edwin and Nellie Teal Loker. She was the loving wife of the late Marvin J. Snyder, who died on August 14, 1980. They were married on October 17, 1948, in the Berlin United Methodist Church.
A lifelong resident of Berlin, Marie was a 1946 graduate of Berlin High School and was a member of the Berlin United Methodist Church. For almost 40 years, she worked for Columbia/Rensselaer Telephone (Taconic Telephone) as both an operator and administrative assistant to the Central Office Manager, retiring in 1989. Marie also was a tour escort for Yankee Trails until 1985. She was also a member of the Berlin Seniors, having currently served as President. While there, she set up trips and held many offices. Marie was also a former Matron for the Eastern Star in Petersburgh, NY, and Unity Lodge #9 in New Lebanon, NY, along with being a member of the Berlin Rescue Squad’s Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne I. and husband Gary Messemer of Cropseyville, NY, a sister, Grace M. Goodermote of Berlin, an aunt, Etola S. Beers of Troy, NY, her dear friend Elmer Wescott of Berlin, step-grandchildren Steven and Larry Faulkner, six step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends were invited to the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, on Sunday afternoon, December 6, from 3 to 5 pm for visitation. Private graveside services were held in the Berlin Community Cemetery. A Memorial Service celebrating Marie’s life was held on Monday afternoon at 1 pm in the Berlin United Methodist Church, Main Street, where Rev. Kim Kie officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Berlin Seniors, Berlin Rescue Squad or the Berlin United Methodist Church in loving memory of Marie I. Snyder.
