Coach Mike Lilac Jr.’s Hoosick Falls Central School boys basketball team got their 2009-10 season off on the right foot with a 42-31 WASAREN League win over the home standing Hoosic Valley Central School Indians last Friday night, December 4. The win was Lilac’s 194th as hoop boss at HFCS in his fourteenth season as cage mentor.
Hoosick Falls broke out to an 11-9 edge after eight minutes and stretched their advantage to 17-13 at the half. The visiting Panthers expanded their lead to 25-18 at the three quarter mark. Then, in period four, HFCS found the range and outscored the hosts 17-13 for the 42-31 win.
Sophomore Alex Lilac led HFCS with nineteen points while hitting five three point buckets. Sean Dingman with 12 points, Tanner Williams, 4, Kevin McMahon, 4, Hutton Rasmus, 2, and Quinn Rasmus, 1, also scored for Hoosick Falls. For Hoosic Valley, Kyle Pallozzi led the way with twelve points.
Rebounding From Afar: Ten different Panthers played for HFCS in their season opener. Next up for Hoosick Falls is a home game this Friday night, December 11, when they host Cambridge. The Indians lost to Schuylerville in their league opener, 72-59, while Brittonkill-Tamarac edged Stillwater 48-47. Cambridge will be looking for a win against their Route 22 rivals. Look for a good ball game at the River Road gymnasium this Friday night.
