Sophia W. Rappoccio

Berlin – Sophia W. Fried Rappoccio, 91, of Old State Route 22 in Berlin, NY, died on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT.
Born September 28, 1918, in Glenville, CT, she was the daughter of the late John and Sophie Knauss Fried. She was the loving wife of the late Carmello R. Rappoccio, who died on February 23, 1994.
A resident of Berlin since 1974, Sophia was a 1936 graduate of Greenwich High School in Connecticut and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rye Brook, NY. She formerly worked for Kruger Bakery in Glenville, CT, and Empire Brush in Port Chester, NY.
She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Karen L. Yerton and her husband Al, with whom she resided, a son, Karl and wife Frances Rappoccio of Goodyear, AZ, two grandchildren, Maria and Lixuan Rappoccio, a sister, Olga Verni of Syracuse, NY, along with many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by siblings, Joseph, Clarence, John, Edith and Margaret Merritt, Carl Fried, Bertha Archer, Lillian Smalley, Dolores Valdez and Emma Naumov.
Graveside services were on Saturday, December 12, at 11 am in the Berlin Community Cemetery where Rev. Robert Hurd officiated. There were no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org. Arrangements were under the direction of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh, NY.
