Stephentown Historical Society Holiday Potluck Dinner

December 4, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Stephentown Historical Society will hold its Holiday Potluck Dinner on Monday, December 7, at 6:30 pm at the Heritage Center, Garfield Road, Stephentown. Bring a dish to share – main dish, salad or dessert. Beverages and table service are provided. To participate in the optional gift exchange, bring a wrapped $5 gift marked for your own gender. This event is free, open to the public and is handicapped accessible. For directions, telephone 518-733-5675.
Steve O’Connor, in the persona of Herman Knickerbocker, will entertain after dinner. Knickerbocker (1779-1855), a noted figure from an important New York family, was known as “the Prince of Schaghticoke” because of his hospitality and generosity. He was raised in the Albany area, where he received a classical education and studied law. He was admitted to the New York bar in 1803 and began his law practice in Albany, NY. He served a term in Congress and was a New York State Assemblyman and a judge of Rensselaer County. He inherited the family estate in Schaghticoke.
O’Connor is a Knickerbocker descendant. He is a volunteer for the Knickerbocker Historical Society, which is preserving and restoring the Knickerbocker Mansion in Schaghticoke.
