Friday, September 24, 1852: I chopped and split some chestnut timber for wall. Today my two sons drew large stones into the wall with their three yoke of oxen. This evening John F. drew five loads stone by moonlight.
Saturday: Quego paid me two dollars and 25 cents for a pig I left him on Tuesday that he had agreed to pay three dollars. I then rode up to Lanson Carpenters store and got an umbrella on my son Geo P. account, one dollar and 25 cts that is charged to his account. Today I gathered apples and drew a one horse load pumpkins up from the meadow
Monday: This forenoon John F. went onto West Hill to engage his sheep pastured, but not for a certainty. Today Geo P. and Sarah O. went to Pittsfield and Geo P. went on to Lenox and carried Mary Murray.
Tuesday: John F. got his forty wethers from J. M. Glass Mountain onto my Rodgers farm, and today noon James Bush and his brother Calvin Bush called and took dinner with us, and said James Bush sold my John F. a three year old horse for one hundred dollars cash in hand and John F. rode with them home to Orra Bush and rode the horse home this evening.
Wednesday: Today Benj. Tanner came and took dinner with us and he paid John F. 78 dollars for 39 wethers, the other wether got lame and John kept him.
Friday, Oct 1: Today my son Geo P. sold my old ewes, 65 of them at one dollar and 25 cents per head. The two men that bought my sheep, one from Hudson and the other by the name of Mille is from Claverick. Today my wife and Charlotte went to the funeral of the widow Amy Clark, she died on Monday.
Monday: Towards night Geo P. and John F. rode to Hancock village to a railroad meeting and this evening I and my two sons rode over to the school house to school meeting, we put in one trustee which was Philander B. Carpenter which stands for three years. A tin peddler from Pownal put up with us tonight.
Tuesday: Today Geo P. dug potatoes on the Maxon farm, and this evening Geo P. went to Lebanon with two ox teams and wagons with 59 bushels potatoes to Mr. Kendal that lives on Pool Hill and said Kendal agreed to pay 35 cents per bushel.
Wednesday: Today John Merrils masoned for me a stopping the cracks with morter in the bedroom chamber and pointing the wall to my hog house. I paid him the cash for it 50 cts . Today Geo P. and his two sisters went to Pittsfield to the cattle show and fair and they stayed tonight to their uncle F. J. Wylie’s.
