Duane R. Mason

Bennington – Duane R. Mason, 69, a resident of Penny Lane in Bennington, VT, died unexpectedly December 19, 2009, at his home. Duane was born in Sunderland, VT, on December 10, 1940. He was the son of the late Elbridge O. and Mary (Ryan) Mason. He attended schools in Sunderland and Arlington, VT. He later attended Auto Technician School in Boston, MA. Following his schooling, he worked as a mechanic throughout his life, beginning at the former Volkswagen garage in Bennington and Bennington Ford. He retired from Cahill’s Auto Recycling in Hoosick, NY.
Duane enjoyed hunting and fishing and the company of his dog and several cats, many of which he rescued. He was fascinated with his trip to Alaska with family members. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and having a heart of gold.
Duane leaves his companion of many years, Mary Kohler of Woodford, VT, sons, Duane, James and John Mason, all of Bennington, and Francis Mason of Petersburgh, NY, brothers, William and wife Margaret Mason of Bennington, James and wife Kathy Mason of Maryland and Hyland Capin of Pownal, VT, sisters, Sonja Mason and Kathy Metcalfe both of Hoosick Falls, NY, four grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by sisters, Lois Mason, Josephine LaFountain and Ella Prue.
A time to remember Duane was held on Tuesday, January 5, at the Beech Street Firehouse on Gore Road in Bennington. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home. To send personal email condolences to the family, please visit www.sheafuneralhomes.com.
