Ellen Sinopoli And Bairbre McCarthy In A Workshop At The Stephentown Library

Choreographer Ellen Sinopoli and storyteller Bairbre McCarthy will offer a free participatory workshop at Stephentown Memorial Library on Sunday, January 17 at 3 pm in relation to the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company’s newest program, Celtic Footprints, premiering at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy on January 30. The workshop will be geared for families and will incorporate storytelling, picture books and creative movement. Ireland’s Sunday Tribune describes Bairbre McCarthy as a master storyteller who can weave a great story. As a seancha’ (storyteller) she continues the oral tradition of the Celts. A native of County Clare and a graduate of University College Galway, Bairbre is an author of children’s books and Irish legends. The Irish Prime Minister brought her latest book, The Keeper of the Crock of Gold to the White House on St. Patrick’s day as a gift for President Obama’s daughters. Bairbre’s books on Irish mythology are published by Mercier Press, Cork, Ireland.
Ellen Sinopoli is the Artistic Director of the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, the resident company of The Egg. She has choreographed over 50 new works since ESDC’s formation in 1991 and has received choreographic commissions from multiple institutions. Her collaborations link her with artists of distinct genres and backgrounds, such as architectural designer Frances Bronet, sculptor Jim Lewis, author Pleasant DeSpain, clarinetist Don Byron and composer Hilary Tann, as she explores the unlimited possibilities of perception and meaning through dance.
