The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center has lots of snow and there are perfect conditions for an Animal Tracking Day for Families on Saturday, January 23, from 1 to 4 pm. This program will teach animal tracking skills as you follow fisher tracks for the afternoon. Fishers are in the weasel family. They are common to Dyken Pond and are fascinating to follow as they are very active. All ages are welcome to this event. Participants are asked to dress for the outdoors as you will be outside the entire afternoon. The instructor is Jim Bonesteel, President of the Friends of Dyken Pond. The fee for the workshop is $10 per person or $25 per family. Pre-registration is required and can be done by contacting the Center at 658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net.
Dyken Pond Center is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, nature watching and ice fishing. Call 658-2055 for directions and a complete schedule of our winter events.
