Henry E. Schildt

East Chatham – Henry E. Schildt, 86, formerly of East Chatham, NY, died at his home on January 16, 2010.
Born in New York City on June 24, 1923, he was the son of Henry R. Schildt and Elsie H. Jungen. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School in 1941 and attended the Pratt Institute majoring in Chemical Engineering before entering the Army in 1942.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 194th Chemical Depot Company in both the European and Pacific theaters. Mr. Schildt worked as a chemist for the former Elmvale Worsted Mill and also for Eaton Paper in Pittsfield, MA. He also worked as a chemist at the Universal Match Co. in Hudson, NY, for many years.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Edythe D. Merchant of Lanesborough, MA. He leaves a niece, Diana L. Heitzman of NY, and a nephew, James R. Merchant of NH.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 30, at the French, Gifford, Preiter, & Blasl Funeral Home, in Chatham, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. For directions or to send an online condolence visit www.frenchblasl.com.
