Residents of the Town of Hoosick came together to celebrate the inauguration of a new Republican majority on the Town Board, along with the re-election of two popular county lawmakers on January 2, 2010.
The swearing-in ceremony saw new Supervisor Keith Cipperly, new Town Council members Louis Schmigel and Jeff Wysocki, and Town Clerk Sue Stradinger take the Oath of Office, along with Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote. The ceremony, followed by a dinner, took place at the Barbecue Recreation in Hoosick.
Several invited public officials were present. Those participating in the swearing-in ceremony included State Senator Roy McDonald, NYS Assemblyman Tony Jordan, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino, Stephentown Town Justice Cyril Grant and Pittstown Town Justice Kenneth Marbot.
“This is a great honor for us, and we thank everyone for giving us the opportunity to represent and serve Hoosick. We will work hard and do our best in the coming months,” said Cipperly. During the ceremony, Cipperly was presented with an engraved gavel.
The Town Board team of Cipperly, Schmigel and Wysocki, and County Legislators Brownell and Goodermote thanked their family, friends and supporters for their efforts in producing major victories in the 2009 election.
Hoosick Republican Chairwoman, Cindy Mattison, credited an outstanding win to teamwork.
“We were successful because of the great teamwork of good candidates, active Republican committee members, and many supporters. This is a tremendous win for Hoosick Republicans and everyone who contributed has a great deal to be proud of,” said Mattison.
Brownell, Goodermote and incoming Chairman of the Legislature, Martin Reid, noted the contributions and service of former Chairman of the Legislature, Neil J. Kelleher, who also attended the Hoosick ceremony. Kelleher helped lay the groundwork for the 2009 victories and helped make the Legislature more responsive and efficient.
Brownell and Goodermote represent Hoosick, as well as four other towns in Legislative District 5, including Petersburgh, Grafton, Berlin and Stephentown. Several representatives of these communities were on hand for the ceremony.
Following his re-election, Brownell was elected by his colleagues to serve in the position of Vice Chairman of the Legislature in recognition of his service and leadership capabilities.
“We appreciate the support of everyone in Hoosick and District 5 who worked hard for us and helped bring about our re-election. Your help and support really made a difference,” said Goodermote.
