Hoosier Holiday Basketball Tourney – Monument Mt. Too Much For Panther Girls In Tourney Title Game

January 8, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Gary Danforth
After coming off a sixteen point win over Berlin Central School a night earlier in the opening round of the 2009 Hoosier Holiday Basketball Tournament, Kerry Brannigan’s Panther five was overwhelmed 51-15 in the championship game last Tuesday evening, December 29. Monument Mountain, from Great Barrington, MA, led by a slim 9-7 margin after eight minutes. But the visitors found the range and led 26-11 at intermission. Then HFCS was outscored 16-2 in period three as the visitors led 42-13 at the three quarter mark. Monument Mountain cruised to their easy 51-15 tourney title win.
Jen Priore with 5 points, Emily Wilwol, 4, Melody Mentiply, 2, Alyssa Schneider, 2, and Frankie Pearson with 2 points scored for HFCS. L. Ann Dixon led Monument Mountain scorers with 10 points.
Rebounding from Afar: HFCS is now 1-6, overall, and 0-3 in WASAREN League play. The Panthers girls play a home game on Friday, January 8, versus the Greenwich Witches. Greenwich is a pretty good team, but I wouldn’t sell these Panther girls short just yet. There looks to be no quit in them.
