John Milton Estabrooks

Stephentown – John Milton Estabrooks, 86, of Pine Way, Stephentown, NY, died peacefully Saturday, January 9, 2010, at his residence after a long illness.


Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late John Hubert Estabrooks and Edith M. Livingston Estabrooks. He was raised in Glens Falls, NY, and Center Brunswick, NY, He also resided in Cropseyville, NY, Wynantskill, NY, and, the past 13 years, in Stephentown. He was a graduate of Troy High School .
Mr. Estabrooks was a surveyor for the Niagara Mohawk Power Company for over 35 years retiring 23 years ago. He was a Golden Eagle member of the NRA, a member of Trout Unlimited, an expert marksman and a member the Berlin Rod & Gun Club and the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club, among others. In high school he was the sectional champion in the 440 yard dash. John enjoyed fly-tying and loved fly-fishing, the woods and wildlife. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the last surviving member of his B-24 flight crew.
Survivors include his children, Frank D. Estabrooks of Cropseyville, Nanson E. Serrianne of Glens Falls, George A. Estabrooks of Cropseyville, Carrie M. Estabrooks of Mont Tremblant, Quebec, and Jay L. Estabrooks of Berlin, NY, his sister, Janet Ruth McDowell of Glens Falls, his grandchildren, Danush, Elizabeth, Nina, Daisy, Bonny, Seth, Samuel, Ethan and Aaron, and his great-grandchildren, Kody and Zoe. He was pre-deceased by a son, John Estabrooks, a daughter, Polly Mae Estabrooks, and a sister, Edith Virginia Wilson.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY, on Saturday, January 16, from 1 to 3 pm. Interment will be in the Brookside Cemetery, Brunswick, NY.
