Mike Lilac Jr.’s Hoosick Falls Central School Panther boys basketball team finished the first half of the rugged WASAREN League season undefeated last Friday night, January 15, when they beat down one of its challengers, home standing Granville Central School, by a 59-38 margin. HFCS, now 7-0 in league action and 9-1, overall, gave the Golden Horde their first league loss. The Panthers hit five three-point shots on offense, and their stingy defense held one of the Horde’s leading scorers scoreless.
The Panthers jumped out to a slim 11-9 edge after eight minutes before outscoring their hosts 21-9 in period two to take a 32-18 lead at the half. Granville cut their deficit to 42-30 entering period four before seeing HFCS walk away to their 59-38 victory when the Panthers outscored the Horde 17-8 over the final eight minutes.
Kevin McMahon with 25 points, John Hayden, 7, Sean Dingman, 7, Alex Lilac, 6, Tanner Williams, 5, Quinn Rasmus, 5, Hutton Rasmus, 2, and Mike Brewster with 2 points scored for HFCS. For the Horde, Evan Miller with 15 and D.J. Campbell with 10 led the way.
Rebounding From Afar: Most teams have been able to play with the Panthers for a half or three quarters but the good teams keep plugging away and do what they do best and sooner or later pull away from the opposition. There are no easy games in the WASAREN League, some maybe have better match ups which favor one team or the other.
