Read For Haiti Sponsored By The Stephentown Memorial Library

Often when big things happen in the world it is hard for children to feel that they have the power to make a difference.
For the next three weeks the Stephentown Memorial Library invites area children to keep track of how many books they read at home, to raise money for the people of Haiti.  This is one way for our children to feel that they are a part of something bigger.
Participating children will ask family members, neighbors and friends to donate a certain amount of money for each book they read independently or with a parent.  Keep the pledge amount practical to encourage support.  For example, if a child reads five books a night he or she might ask sponsors for ten cents a book.  If a child is older and reads longer books, then he or she might ask for more.  The pledge amounts are up to the discretion of the participating families. This fund-raiser will run from February 1 through February 21.
Pledge sheets are available at the Stephentown Memorial Library, 472 State Route 43, Stephentown. Please return pledge sheets, charts and donations to the Library by March 1.  Checks should be made payable to the American Red Cross.  All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.
