Rensselaer County 2009 Year End 4-H Program Awards

In recent Recognition Events, year end awards were distributed to 4-H members in Rensselaer County.  These events were held at the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad and Tamarac School.   Clubs who met a challenging level of criteria were announced as “Honor Clubs” for 2009 and they are as follows:
Clover Club – led by Adult Leaders Anne Grab of Troy and Jane Luskin of Valley Falls
Green Earthlings – led by Adult Leaders Stacy Film and Jennifer Hurd of West Sand Lake and Lori Kelley of Wynantskill
Northern Livestock – led by Adult Leader Eleanor Calhoun of Hoosick Falls
Saddle Packs – led by Adult Leaders Jean Anatriello and Sara Mau of Schaghticoke, Mary Ellen Bahan of Valley Falls, Terri Tyler of Mechanicville and Kelly Clickner of Glenmont
Thrills and Skills – led by Adult Leaders Cindy Johnson, Barbara Gorbaty, Gretchen Morton of Troy and Donna Donlon of Johnsonville
In addition, the following teen 4-H members received 4-H County Medals for their corresponding project areas:
Janna Berard of West Sand Lake – Dog
Claudette Martin of East Greenbush – Clothing & Textiles
Jared Reed of East Greenbush – Public Speaking
Emily Wilwol of Hoosick Falls – Community Service
Kacie Wilwol of Hoosick Falls – Plants and Horticulture
Finally, at these year end recognition events the following members received awards for Exceptional/Records of Distinction for their corresponding project area:
Robert Church of Hoosick Falls – Beef Cattle for the Hereford Breed
Samantha and Jacob Bakaitis of Hoosick Falls – Beef Cattle for the Hereford Breed
Logan Powers of Hoosick Falls – Beef Cattle for the Hereford Breed
Courtney Luskin of Valley Falls – Dairy Cattle, for Jersey and Milking Shorthorn Breeds
Janna Berard of West Sand Lake – Dog
The goal of the 4-H Youth Development Program is to teach life skills that youth are able to use in all aspects of their life and carry with them into the future.  These life skills will aid them in succeeding in future goals outside their immediate 4-H Project areas such as improved school performance and career selection.  If you have any questions about the 4-H Yourh Development Program contact your respective Cornell Cooperative Extension office.
