Uriah Burhans of Grafton was awarded three scholarships at the Annual Student Award Ceremony at Lyndon State College on October 22. Burhans is a Meteorology major. He is the son of Derek and Jennifer Burhans of Grafton.
The first award was the Woodall/T.N. Vail Scholarship for Academic Excellence. This award honors students with an outstanding academic record. It is one of the College’s most prestigious awards. The second was the Jim Cantore Scholarship for Meteorology. This award goes to a deserving Atmospheric Sciences major who is specializing in Television Studies. The third award was the Gil and Avis Ford Scholarship in Meteorology. This award recognizes an Atmospheric Sciences major who shows academic promise and has been involved in community service.
The awards were presented in an afternoon ceremony in the College’s newest building, the Academic and Student Activity Center, which opened in September. The building houses the Atmospheric Sciences, Exercise Science and Business Administration departments and includes the John Marshall Observation Deck for weather experimentation.
