With a small bench as it is, and Erin Berschwinger recovering from a recent shoulder injury, it was unclear if the game against Doane Stewart on January 27 would be an easy one. The Lady Mountaineers started off the game slowly letting the Thunder Chickens get the first points. After foul shots from Kayla Hawk and a good rebound and pass from Victoria Muller to Deanna Nash, the game was off and rolling. With 4:17 left to go in the first quarter the score was Berlin 5, Doane Stewart 2. To end the first quarter, the Lady Mountaineers went on a scoring spree with Tegan Shumway and Muller scoring the next 3 shots bringing the score to 11-2. In the beginning of the second quarter the Thunder Chickens started off the scoring again with a point, making the score 3-11. After intense back and forth, with good passing out of the Mountaineers’ end, BCS ran the score to 21-6 with 3:12 left in the second quarter. At the half the score was 23 to 8.
In the third quarter the teams matched scoring. This made the Mountaineers play a little hastily as their lead diminished. The score with 1:30 left in the third quarter was 38-16. With 30 seconds left in the quarter, an amazing pass from Victoria Muller to Kayla Hawk, who made the shot, widened the gap to 40 to 18. The fourth quarter was a quieter one, with scoring from Muller, Shumway and Hawk. The Thunder Chickens put up 6 points at the end of the game. The final score was Berlin 50, Doane Stuart 24.
