Members of Girl Scout Troop 1752 put their girl scout pledge to work…….”to help other people at all times.” The girls wanted to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. They decided to put together relief kits, partnering with the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park, to send to Haiti. Each kit contains a wash cloth, a hand towel, a bar of soap, nail clippers, a comb, band aids, a toothbrush and $2.50 for shipping fees and toothpaste (which isn’t allowed to be packaged in the kits). Some of the girls even donated their own allowance to put the kits together and make sure they get shipped. While packing the bags, the girls learned all about the history and geography of Haiti in addition to the effects of earthquakes.
Sue Cass and Kathy Despart are the Junior girl scout leaders and if anyone wants information on scouting, they can reach them at kdespart@aim.com.
