Helen Markiewicz

Hoosick Falls – Helen Elizabeth (Fairbanks) Markiewicz, the middle child and only daughter of Elizabeth Burns and Fredrick L. Fairbanks, passed away on February 22, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born on March 18, 1921, in Hoosick Falls, NY, she is pre-deceased by her two brothers, Fred Jr. and Douglas Fairbanks.
A graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, Helen married Edward W. Markiewicz on November 18, 1945. They lived the majority of their married life on Pine Street in Hoosick Falls and raised their three daughters, Deborah M. Cardillo of Pittsburgh, PA, Teresa E. Markiewicz of Cambridge, NY, and Helene I. Allard of Hoosick Falls. Helen worked at the Undergarment in Hoosick Falls, General Cable in Pownal, VT, and Oak Industries, also in Hoosick Falls, from which she retired.
Helen enjoyed sketching in pencil, charcoal and pastels, playing the piano and gardening. After the death of her husband, she lived in their home until moving to the Wood Park Apartments in 2003. A fifty year member of the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls, Helen has five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the spring at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
