Joan M. Hunt

Cambridge – Joan Marie Hunt, 73, a resident of County Route 103 in Cambridge, NY, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, following a brief illness. Mrs. Hunt was born at home in Buskirk, NY, on July 22, 1936, she was the daughter of Harry J. and Addie (Barnhart) Hunt. She grew up on Hunt Road in Buskirk and attended local schools in Buskirk and Johnsonville, NY.
A caring person, she had worked in health care for several years as a nurse at Cambridge Hospital, Glens Falls Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY. Always willing to learn, she graduated from Hudson Valley Community College at the age of 69 with a degree in Medical Terminology where she was on the President’s List for academics. She loved reading, taking walks and watching old movies. She lived her life as a true “green person” before it was vogue. She was a true American who loved her country and was an active supporter of Veterans organizations and causes.
She leaves her daughters, JoAnne Marie Becker of Cambridge and Kimberly Eileen Diotte-Coon of Schuylerville, NY, a son, Donald James Coon Jr. of Whitehall, NY, a sister, Geraldine and husband Walter Harwood of Salem, NY, grandchildren, Andrew Coon, Albert Diotte IV, Toni Diotte, Nicole Diotte, Thomas Diotte, Julie Rogers, Janie Rogers, Jeremy Becker, Ami Becker and Amanda Snow, great-grandchildren Rean Becker (Austin), Jahziah Snow-Andersen, Ronald Marbott, Aliena Davenport and Kahlan Davenport, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by several siblings.
Graveside funeral services will be held on July 22, 2010, in the Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk at a time to be announced.
Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. Hunt may be made to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT, 05201.
