Mountaineers Celebrate Senior Night

February 19, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
Before their final home game of the season last Friday night, the Berlin boys basketball team celebrated its senior night. The Mountaineers only have three seniors on the squad this year. Cody Blain, Drew Webster and Shawn Willis were all honored prior to the tip-off of the game against Waterford.
The Mountaineers wanted to make a statement with their last home game of the season before Sectionals. Facing Waterford for the third time this year, the Mountaineers knew it would be a good game. Berlin did a good job of keeping the game close with the Fordians, almost matching them in scoring in each quarter. At halftime the visitors held a 25-20 lead, but the Mountaineers were not done yet. They battled back in the second half, never letting the Fordians build on their lead. In the end though, Berlin couldn’t quite pull it off, losing 44-38.
Cody Blain led the Mountaineers with 18 points, and Shawn Willis pitched in with 12 points.
The Mountaineers now face a Sectional play-in game on Friday at Greenwich at 7 pm. The Witches bring a 4-9 record from the WASAREN League and an 8-10 record overall into the game. The winner will advance to play at #3 seed Voorheesville on Wednesday.
