Sharon Colleen Magazu

February 26, 2010 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – Sharon Colleen Magazu passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Born in Avery, Nebraska, on August 29, 1932, she was the first child of Harvey and Thelma (West) Miller.
Sharon lived in Creston, Iowa, until her family moved to South Boston, MA, in the 1940s. She graduated from South Boston High School in 1950 and Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.
On May 22, 1954, she married Peter Magazu in Braintree, MA. She held several nursing jobs in Florida and Massachusetts, while Peter finished his education. They moved to Albany, NY, before settling in Hoosick Falls, NY, in the 1960s when Sharon took a well deserved break from nursing for the more important job of raising her children. She returned in 1980 to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center where she worked until retirement in 1996.
A nurse at heart, Sharon never missed on opportunity to help in a critical situation. In 1996 she received a plaque of recognition from the Village Board for saving her neighbor and pets from their burning house. Sharon enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and working around the house. She was a member of the First United Church and TC Class in Hoosick Falls. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, who never missed a game.
She leaves her children, Sandra Woods of Schenectady, NY, Michael Magazu of Hoosick Falls, Dan Magazu of Tampa, FL, Linda Magazu of Hoosick Falls and Amy Magazu of Troy, NY, as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sharon was pre-deceased by her mother Thelma, her brother, Vaughn, her husband, Peter, and her closest friend, Shirley Kyer.
At Sharon’s request there will be a Memorial Service on Saturday February 27, at 1 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the First United Church or Community Hospice of Rensselaer County through the funeral home.
