Stephentown Memorial Library February Events

February 12, 2010 By eastwickpress

• Toddler/Preschool Story Time – If you have young children at home, we invite you to join us for stories, songs and an art project each Thursday at 10 am. This is a great opportunity for children to socialize and parents to connect with other parents.
• Words From the Hills – Join us on Sunday, February 14, at 3 pm. Words from the Hills is a roundtable for sharing poetry, short stories, narratives, histories or even something from a blog. The words may be your own or by a writer whose words have been important to you. There will be no performances, but you may give a dramatic reading if you wish. There is no need to memorize or recite, but it’s OK if you want to. Mostly we will just go around the table – perhaps even several times, each reading what they have brought. Listeners are certainly welcome. Enjoy some coffee or tea along with the words.
• Presidents’ Day Observed – SML will be closed on Monday, February 15, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will be having a staff work day that day to improve our library and better meet your needs. Thank you for your understanding!
• The Art of Felting – On Tuesday, February 16, at 1 pm local artisans Isabel Krebs and Lynn Drumm will teach us how to do needle felting. Using locally grown llama wool, kids will create colorful shapes and creatures that they can take home with them. Felting is easy and therapeutic. This program is geared towards children 10 and up. Class size will be limited, so we ask that you register in advance.
• Vacation Week Family Movie – On Wednesday, February 17, at 1 pm we will show the recently released “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” on our large screen. This clever film is based on the beloved children’s book and is rated PG. Popcorn and drinks will be served. This event is free and all are welcome!
• Tween Night – Come join us for our popular monthly Tween Night for 10 to 14 year olds featuring DDR – Dance Dance Revolution, board games, pizza and refreshments. Bring your friends and show off your moves on Friday, February 19, at 6:30 pm at the Library. This event is free, but we ask that you register in advance.
• Chinese New Year Program – Presented by World Awareness Children’s Museum at SML on Saturday, February 27, at 10 am. This program introduces traditions and customs of the Chinese people as they bring in the New Year. This celebration was selected to show students the significance of tradition in events that we celebrate in the United States and those that are celebrated in other areas of the world. The program offers an interactive introduction followed by hands-on opportunities for students to experience traditional clothing, musical instruments and cultural artifacts. Students will also make a take-home craft and put on a Chinese Dragon Parade! Advance registration is appreciated.

The Stephentown Memorial Library is located on Main Street (NY 43) and is handicapped accessible. For more information call 518-733-5675.
