Stephentown Hardest Hit In County
by David Flint
A number of people who have resided in this area for many many years have said they can’t remember such fierce winds blowing for such a long period of time as we had last Saturday night into Sunday. Fortunately the rain was not as heavy as predicted in this area, so flooding did not occur as it did in places further south and east. But many trees and wires came down.
Jim Salmon, NYSEG Regional Manager of Outreach & Development, reported that Stephentown was the hardest hit town in Rensselaer County and that there were about 850 customers without power in the Stephentown-Berlin area. By Tuesday afternoon they had reduced that number to six. The primary problem area they were working on at that time was Gentile Road.
