On February 16, John Hendricks and his family of Berlin received word that he was recommended and accepted by peers, instructors and community leaders to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador Program. Acceptance into the program was based on a demonstration of leadership and citizenship, a desire to learn about diverse cultures and a willingness to venture into the world in the name of peace, friendship and understanding. He was initially nominated from an unknown source in the Berlin School District. Following the

nomination, he received an invitational letter to participate in the Program. John was required to complete an application and interview process much like a job interview. On June 28 John will be traveling overseas for 19 days to Spain, France and Italy with approximately 35 to 40 other New York State students. While traveling he will be required to document in a journal his experiences with different cultures. John also will be eligible to earn one elective high school semester credit with Tech Valley, an alternative project-based learning model formed through a partnership of Capital Region BOCES and Questar III. John said, “I think that it is a great program that will open up many opportunities and even change the way I see the world.” Congratulations and bon voyage John Hendricks!
