Dorothy E. Kanopka

Stephentown – Dorothy E. Kanopka, 92, of Route 43, Stephentown, NY, died on Sunday afternoon, March 21, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital, in Troy, NY, after being stricken at her home, surrounded by her devoted granddaughters.
Born in Stephentown on March 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Claude H. and Mary E. Rainey Chittenden. She was the loving wife of the late Casimir (Charlie) Kanopka.
Dorothy was very active within her community as well as at the Rensselaer County Senior Citizen Center where she received the Senior of the Year award. She was also very committed to her church, Stephentown Center Baptist Church. For many years she enjoyed Lebanon Valley Speedway racing. She was a devoted Kenny Tremont fan. She took great pride in the care of her home and lawn.
Survivors include her son, John “Jackie” Kanopka and his wife Faye of Berlin, NY, her grandchildren, Courtney L. Kanopka and Morgan E. Kanopka both of Averill Park, NY, Cheryl and husband Larry Maxon of Berlin, and Edward and wife Kim Maxon of Brunswick, NY, along with her great-grandchildren, Gavin Timothy Kanopka, Brittany, Dustin, Phillip and Desiree.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, for visitation starting at 11 am. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm officiated by Rev. Trygve Tomlinson. Burial will follow in the Garfield Cemetery in Stephentown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephentown Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168.
