Hoosick Lions Club Installs First Women Members

March 26, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
While installing new members into the Hoosick Lions Club in December, Lions Club International District Governor Ed Stano, Jr. encouraged the group to invite women to become members. On Thursday, March 18, at the Falls Diner, three women, sponsored by their husbands, were installed. The new members, Bridget Pierce, Beverly White and Marie Lucey were installed by Lions Club Zone Chairman Loretta Saheim of Greenfield, NY. She is a Past District Governor and the first woman Lions District Governor in the state.
During the candlelight installation Saheim told the new members that they should remember Helen Keller’s request to Lions Clubs to always help the sight impaired. She said their role as members of Lions Club International, with members in 213 countries, was to serve their community, their state and their nation. She said they should be honored that the Hoosick membership had singled them out to be the first women to join the Hoosick Lions Club.
