Looking For The Use Of A Male Hog

March 5, 2010 By eastwickpress

Monday, December 27, 1852: I went to Sylvenas Carpenter’s to see if he would have the use of his swine but he would not have the hog took from home. On the way I called to Simeon Wylie’s and got a few red peppers and I drove home a pair two year old steers and a cow and yearling heifer from my Rodgers farm that Mr. Aaron Merrils had foddered for me. This evening Westalo Rodgers called and I gave 12½ cts to help buy a bell rope for the lecture room and school house.
Tuesday: Today I went with my one horse wagon and carried saussage meat to Russel Palmer and he helped me grind it, 79 pounds. He charged one cent per pound. Today Patrick tended to chores and chopped and sawed in the wood house for today rainy. This evening my family tended to making saussages and Patrick helped.
Saturday, January 1: Quite rainy. I walked up to Mr. Horton’s and Mr. Ayers to see if they had a male hog. Patrick did not work today, he only helped me do the chores this morning and then left and did not return tonight.
Sunday: I an unwell and lame.
Monday: I this forenoon walked up to Tylor Ayres and then to Philander Hatch’s to see if I could get a male hog but could not. I am taken lame and kept in the house
Wednesday: I keep in the house for I am lame and a hard cold and sore throat and Patrick did the chores and sawed and split a little wood. Quite cold weather. Today Daniel Harrison died with the dropsy.
Thursday: I rode with my one horse wagon to Elisha Broad’s and he engaged me his male hog the use of him when Mr. Salmon Owens had done using him. I called up to Mr. Owens and he told me I could come after the hog Saturday noon, and on the way down today I carried Andrew Clark one bushel turnips and his wife paid me 25 cts for them, and today my two daughters walked over to Aseneth and Miriam Newton’s on a visit. I sent Aseneth the cash for knitting me a pair of mittins. I am some better of my lameness.
