The New Lebanon Book Group will discuss the 2009 National Book Award winner, Jayne Ann Phillips’ Lark and Termite, at 7 pm, Wednesday, April 7, at the New Lebanon Library. Note, this is a change from the previously announced April 1 date.
Lark and Termite is about seventeen year old Lark and her brother, Termite. It takes place in West Virginia in the 1950’s. The children’s mother, Lola, is absent, while their aunt, Nonie, raises them as her own. Termite’s father, Corporal Robert Leavitt, is caught up in the early days of the Korean War. The novel is rich and wonderfully alive, intertwining family secrets, dreams and ghosts in a story that unites us all.
