Parents are invited to participate in a free eight-week program called Parents Raising Safe Kids at the Hoosick Family Resource Center (CEO Head Start Building) on River Road. The program begins on March 15 and will be held each Monday from 5 to 8 pm.
Dinner is provided on the first and last night of the program. Refreshments are offered on the other six nights. Free babysitting is also offered for families in need of assistance in order to attend.
The goal of this course is to educate families, other caregivers and the community to create an environment that protects children from violence and teaches them to control anger and resolve conflicts in positive ways. The parenting program includes information on child development (mental and social skills), age-appropriate behaviors, the impact of media on children and positive, effective discipline. It is appropriate for all parents but will focus particularly on infancy, early childhood and early elementary school children.
Parents Raising Safe Kids is sponsored in part by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition and CEO-Head Start. To register, please call Davia Plusch at CEO-Head Start, 518-686-5045. Parents who need the assistance of a babysitter during the class, should let Davia know when they register.
