Shirley J. Hayes

Hoosick Falls – Shirley J. Hayes, 79, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she had resided since 2007. Shirley formerly resided on the Hill Road in Hoosick, NY.
Born on July 9, 1930, in Hoosick Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Bertha (Jost) Strait. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. Shirley worked for the New York State Department of Transportation until retiring in 1985. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hoosick. She also belonged to the Alter Guild at the Church. Shirley enjoyed aerobics, tai-chi, gardening, knitting, needle point, crocheting and animals.
Survivors include her sons, Ron Bovie of Hoosick Falls and Bill Hamlin of Saratoga, NY, her stepson, David Hayes, three stepdaughters, Carolyn Jackson, Eileen Redmond and Tricia Vaccaro. She is also survived by several cousins.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 17, at 10 am from the All Saints Episcopal Church in Hoosick. Burial followed the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the All Saints Episcopal Church or the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
