The April ordering date for the Extra Helpings Community Food Buying Club in Stephentown is Thursday, March 25, from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church on Garfield Road. The Extra Helpings program is part of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. It allows anyone to buy nutritious food at lower than retail prices. There are no limits on age, income, number of bundles or geography, so all smart shoppers are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The April choices are the $21 basic bundle – 1 10-12 lb. whole turkey, 1 lb. mild bulk sausage roll, 1 lb. pkg. chicken patties, 1 lb. tilapia fish fillets, 5 lb. bag potatoes and 1 bunch sleeved celery. Special #1 at $12.50 is a 5 lb. block of sliced white American cheese. Special # 2 at $19.25 is a 10 lb. bag of breaded chicken tenders. The Meat Box at $32 contains 2.5 lbs. chuck beef pot roast, 3 lbs. boneless/skinless/ I.Q.F. chicken breast, 3 lbs. sweet Italian rope sausage (2/1.5 lbs.), 3 lbs. pepper steaks (8/6 oz.) and 2 lbs. breakfast sausage (4/8 oz. rolls).
Cash payment must be made when ordering. The pick up date is Thursday, April 29, from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church. You may have another person order or pick up your order, but any food not claimed during the pick-up hours will be donated to the food pantry.
