The 2nd Annual Hoosick Falls Outdoor Expo is being planned for March 26 and 27 at the Hoosick Falls Central School. Once again the headliner will be New York State Wildlife Pathologist Ward Stone, who will be speaking at the High School Auditorium at 6 pm on Friday, March 26.
The event begins during the school day on Friday with many special guest lecturers in the classrooms and exhibits and displays and presentations for the students. Then on Friday evening the public is invited to view an extensive set of exhibits on outdoor themes from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibits will be open again on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm.
The event began with a committee of teachers and administrators at the Hoosick Falls school who wanted to help youth connect with nature through outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping, etc. They were soon joined by a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts who actively joined the effort to put together the Outdoor Expo. It brings together teachers, students, administrators, parents and community members with a special interest in the outdoors to promote and celebrate nature and outdoor activities.
There will be displays of local animals and fish, local sportsmen on hand to share their knowledge of wildlife and recreational opportunities in our area and NY State DEC personnel with displays and exhibits to share their knowledge of wildlife from a statewide perspective. There will be displays for kayakers, hikers, bikers, snowmobilers and campers. Local wildlife artist Wayne Trimm will display his work.
This event brings together a very diverse group of nature lovers, from scientists to backwoods hunters, to share that love with young people and show them a way to take advantage of the wealth of outdoor activities this region offers. The public is invited to attend this free event and find ways to re-connect with nature.
