Cub Scout Pack 911 Pinewood Derby

April 30, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Sherry Bowman-Kluck
The atmosphere Saturday afternoon, April 10, was full of children’s excitement and anticipation at the Pinewood Derby. Cub Scout Pack 911 held the double elimination event at the Petersburgh Baptist Church. Car requirements were set prior, and the five dens of the pack including Bear, Wolf, Tiger, Webelos and Webelos II participated. Approximately 35 people watched 13 contestants setting up their hand made cars to see which one would roll down the fastest on the bright blue and yellow 32 foot track. Some cars were elaborate in detail while others were simply fast, but all were representative of the hard work and imagination of each young cub. Ribbons for participation were given to all scout members, and each den was awarded an individual trophy for first, second and third fastest car. The Pack’s overall first, second and third fastest cars also received trophies. The Pinewood Derby concluded with a pizza party to celebrate the fine craftsmanship and competition by Cub Scout Pack 911.

Overall Pinewood Derby Winners with trophy, ribbon and winning car from back to front: First Place James Akers with the Webelos, Second Place Bear Nick Shoemaker, Third Place Tiger Lane Pelletier.
