Geo P. Getting Ready To Keep House

Sunday, February 27, 1853: Tonight Geo P. and wife returned home from Lenox.
Monday: This forenoon John F. drove his fat steers to new Lebanon to Lyman Matthews for 90 dollars, John F. bought them of Patrick Murphy last fall. Today Geo P. lent seven hundred dollars in good bankable money to John Jay Moffett and took a note for three years.
Thursday, March 3: Today my two sons went with two horse sleigh and Geo P. wife and my two daughters, they all went to temperance meeting to the Baptist Church.
Friday: Today Geo P. and wife and Charlotte E. went to Troy, they went with my horse and Geo P.’s horse harnessed onto my sleigh, the sleighing poor and stopped to Sand Lake to Sliter’s Tavern and paid 37½ cts for a two horse wagon and returned this evening and stayed tonight to said Calvin Sliters. they went to Troy and bought a parlor cooking stove and bought crockery and other articles. Quite a snow storm tonight.
Saturday: Patrick chopped in the wood house and foddered to my Rodgers Barn, and Geo P. and wife and Charlotte E. retured home and got home at eleven o’clock this forenoon.
Monday: Geo P. and John F. went to Berlin to vendue to Mr. Allen’s but did not buy anything. Today Mr. Mack from Lee took dinner with us, he wanted to borrow money.
Tuesday: Today Geo P. went with horse and cutter and Sarah O with him to Pittsfield, he paid 18 dollars for 25 yards all wool carpet, and other necessaries to keep house.
Wednesday: Today rainy. John F. went in the day time and then in the evening to Geo Hirse tavern to John Conklin court. Today Mr. Wm. MacMurray came and fetched a two horse sleigh load of furniture to Geo P.’s wife, his daughter Mary, and said MacMurray stayed with us tonight.
Thursday: Geo P. rode to Lebanon to Mr. Walkers and bargained with him for a cow at 24 dollars, and paid five dollars, and said Walker agreed to keep the cow till Saturday. This evening my children all went to the last singing school in the lecture room, Mr. Evans the teacher.
Friday: this forenoon Geo P. and Patrick each took loads of wood from Wm B. Maxon’s woods on the hill down to Geo P. house for fire wood which is the firstof Geo P.’s getting wood in readiness to keep house, and this afternoon Geo P. bought a second  handed cook stove of Sylvenas Carpenter
