The Hoosick Falls Central School Drama Club proudly presents the Tony award winning musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, at 7 pm, and Sunday, May 2, at 2 pm. Thanks to the support of the school and administration, admission for the drama productions continues to be free.
The musical, based on the 1988 movie of the same name that starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine, deals with two con men in the French Riviera. Lawrence Jameson is a sophisticated British con artist who makes his living talking wealthy women out of their money. He crosses paths with Freddy Bensen, a younger, less experienced, and more vulgar con man who initially teams up with Lawrence, only to later compete against him. The cast stars senior Peter Donohue and junior Brett Hanselman as Lawrence and Freddy respectively, seniors Hannah Caron as Muriel Eubanks, Lacey LaCroix as Jolene Oaks and Maeghan DiMaggio as Christine Colgate, some of the wealthy socialites, and sophomore Evan Morier as Andre Thibault, Lawrence’s assistant.
Director Robert Allen looked very hard into shows when making his choice for this musical. “In contrast to our previous two musicals (Hello, Dolly! and Once Upon A Mattress) that were first performed in the 50s and 60s, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels made its debut on Broadway in 2005 to rave reviews. My goal was to find a contemporary, well received and highly entertaining show, and I’m eager to bring this recent Broadway hit to our school and community.”
The set is designed by Charles Krawczyk, with costumes designed by Missi Reynolds. Samantha Benkoski is dance choreographer, and Tom Revane is the light designer. Juniors Amber and Mary Luke and parent Jane Luke handle props, while senior Sarah Middleton is the set manager. Senior Angela Slaton will run the lights, and sophomore Nick Downing will handle the soundboard. Refreshments will be served during intermission, with all proceeds going to the Hoosick Falls Performing Arts Booster Club.
Allen has a note to parents – there are adult themes and humor in this show that may be deemed inappropriate for younger audiences.
