The Irish stew contest was a big hit in the Armory after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Two recipes used lamb and four had beef. Each stew could be purchased during the Armory event for $1 a cup. Jeannie Gilson was the winner of the Best Taste for her Hooville Brew Stew. Paul Yurkee won Best Presentation, and the Best Name Award went to Sherri Stowell for Irish Potato Famine Stew, which had no potatoes. It was fun for all, and plans are already being made for next year’s competition. The three judges, Jim Monahan, Pat Kennedy and Margaret Casey, unanimously agreed all the contestants and their stews were winners.
