Nicholas Montemarano

Buskirk/Hoosick Falls – Nicholas Montemarano, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided on the Buskirk/West Hoosick Road in Buskirk, NY, with his wife Elsie (Lux) Montemarano, wife of sixty-two years.
Born on August 26, 1922, in Harrison, NY, Nicholas was the son of the late Antonio and Filomena (DelMastro) Montemarano. He graduated from White Plains High School, class of 1939. Nicholas served with the Army Air Force as a Flight Maintenance Gunner 748 in the European Theater during World War II. He worked as an auto service manager for several car dealerships throughout New York and Connecticut, until retiring at the age of sixty-five in 1987. After relocating to their beloved Buskirk farm, Nick continued his career for another twenty years, on a part time basis, at Haynes Ford in Hoosick Falls. He was universally respected for his honesty, integrity and caring attention for his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, VT.
Survivors, other than his wife Elsie, include his son, Michael Montemarano and wife Loretta of Pawling, NY, his daughter, Ann Hammerle of East Arlington, VT, and his son, Richard Montemarano of Montgomery, NY. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nicholas Montemarano, Joseph Montemarano and Maggie Hammerle. Nicholas is pre-deceased by a brother, Frank Montemarano.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered at 10 am on Friday, April 9, from St. John the Baptist Church. Burial is at 3 pm on Friday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Health Center Activities Fund through the funeral home.
