Open House Regarding The Future Of Dougherty Corner

April 16, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Alex Koks is anxious to receive input from the community regarding his plans for the vacant lot on the corner of Main and John Streets. Until recently Koks had planned to build a bed and breakfast on the vacant lot. The B&B was to include a reception area and restaurant on the first floor and guest rooms on the second and third floor. However, with the vacancy of the Upsy Daisy floral shop in his adjoining building, he is considering a change of plans, and he wants to share his ideas with the community.
His new vision is to open a restaurant in the vacant space. He understands that many years ago the shop was a restaurant, and he wants to restore that history. The vacant lot would then become Dougherty’s Hotel with owner’s or manager’s quarters on the first floor, along with a reception area and a handicapped accessible suite.  The second and third floors would have guest rooms.
“This new plan allows for living quarters in the hotel section and a more spacious restaurant next door,” said Koks.
Alex Koks will be at the former Upsy Daisy from 10 am until 2 pm on Sunday, April 18, to share his ideas and to hear what local people want.
