April 2, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
On Tuesday evening, March 30, two seniors and eight juniors were inducted into the Philip Leonard Chapter of the National Honor Society at Hoosick Falls Central School. The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Melody Mentiply, followed by the Senior Band performing an outstanding rendition of “Patrick’s Rune.” Mike Brewster introduced the program; Shelby Marsh outlined the Honor Society requirements; Kayla Snyder explained the Society emblem, and Kelby Moriarty, Kelsey Rogers, Andrea Niles and Samantha Skott described the Society tenets of Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service, lighting a candle at the center of the stage symbolizing each one.

The new members were tapped to come to the stage, and, once assembled, the entire Society, led by President Megan McEachron, recited the National Honor Society pledge. Jr./Sr. High School Principal Mrs. Stacy Vadney accepted the new members.
Teacher Of The Year
Society members Sarah Gleason, Samantha Niles, Maeghan DiMaggio, Kelby Moriarty and Kayla Snyder described their Teacher of the Year as a man who surpassed many great historical men, whom they named, by being a very special teacher who makes chemistry interesting, makes time for his students and often tutors them. The Honor Society Teacher of the Year is Brian VanArsdale.
National Honor Society Co-advisor Isabel McGuire said she and fellow advisor Cheselia Neilsen were proud of the members noting they were a pleasure to work with, adding their Christmas Wish program was, once again, extremely successful. Miss McGuire presented the Jeffrey Stratton
