Matthew McKeeby, The Berlin Limner, will be the guest speaker at the April 19 meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society. A limner is simply an artist or painter. The term has come to be used specifically in reference to painters in the North American Colonies who worked during the 18th and 19th centuries. Limners once traveled the countryside providing any and all painting services.
McKeeby has revived this tradition, offering a range of classic American folk art reproduction, originals and decorative services. He will speak of folk art painting as well as portrait painting and decoration in the Northeast.
Meetings are held at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Berlin, at 7:30 pm. The programs are free and open to the public.
