Friday, February 18, 1853: I took the one horse wagon and carried my daughter Charlotte E. to Lebanon to Doctor Right’s and paid him 12 cents for pulling a tooth for her. We then called to Nichols store and post office and paid one cent for what is called a valentine letter. Today John F. rode his horse to Pittsfield on a visit and stayed, and tonight Geo P. returned home from Lenox and his wife with him.
Tuesday: I am lame, I only tended to a few chores and Patrick Rafter did the chores and worked to the wood pile. John did chores and this evening he went to Hancock village to the basement of the Church to an oyster supper and paid 50 cts, and today Geo P. walked and drove a yoke fat oxen to the west part of New Lebanon to Mr. Milo Bull and said Bull paid Geo P. one hundred and twelve dollars for said oxen.
Friday: Today John F. and Patrick Rafter went onto my Rodgers farm, they drove seven head cattle to the barn to be foddered and stabled, and Patrick went to the saw mill once with two logs.
Saturday: Today Geo P. took my one horse wagon and his horse and carried his wife home to her Father’s in Lenox. Tonight I paid Patrick Rafter ten dollars in cash which pays him for two months work from the twenty first of Jany last. Tonight said Patrick paid out nine dollars and a half for a suit of clothes and cloth for a shirt to N. Nichols store.
