26th Annual Hoosick Lions Club 5k Road Race

The weather Saturday morning, May 22, was perfect for the 26th Annual Hoosick Lions Club 5K Road Race. About 50 runners and walkers took off from Munsell St., across Abbott, down Classic, through Harter Lane to Wilder and then onto Main St. up to the Cemetery and back down Main. First across the finish line was James Caruthers of Williamstown, MA who breezed to victory in 16:06.473.

The first woman across the finish line was HFCS Elementary school Physical Education teacher and Field Hockey Coach Denise Campbell of North Bennington, VT whose time was 20:10.593. The first Town of Hoosick resident across the line was Jacob Pearson of Hoosick Falls who came in at 21:31.730. His sister, Frankie Pearson of Hoosick Falls completed the race in 22:59.119.
HFCS Science teacher Tony Malikowski added a little fun to his race as he juggled three balls the entire route. The walkers looked to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The kids took off in a flash for the Fun Run. Every Fun Run participant received a medal. Gary Danforth was recognized for participating in all 26 races. This year his two children, Ethan and Catherine ran with him.

15 To 19 – Male: Jacob Pearson, first, Female: Martha Blair, Hoosick Falls, first, 31:05.945.
20 To 29 – Male: Joshua Lippinski, Pittsfield, MA, first, 17:25.007, second Brad McGuire, Hoosick Falls, 22:47.341. Female: Becky McGuire, Torrington, CT, 26:19.270, first, Katie Brown, Hoosick Falls, second, 27:31.264.
30 To 39 – Male: James Caruthers, first, Mel Madison of Bennington, VT, second, 21:35.192. Female: Denise Campbell, first, Tanya Buden, Hoosick Falls, 29:02.280.
40 To 49 – Male: Jim Preite, Adams, MA, 18:04.227, first. Tony Malikowski, Hoosick Falls, 23:53.521, second. Female: Laura Nesbit, Bennington, VT, 24:42.085, first. Jackie Lemieux, Williamstown, MA, 27:00.635, second.
50 To 59 – Male: Michael Bromm, Valley Falls, 20:28.257, first. John Aldrich, Bennington, VT, 22:18.924, second. Female: Karin Bradley, Pittsfield, MA, 30:54.208, first, no second.
60 And Over
Male: Tony Cupaigola, Manchester, VT, 23:35.983, first. George Bushica, Cheshire, MA, second. Female: Candi Schermerhorn, Diamand Point, NY, 26:19.475, first. Kathleen Borge, Hoosick Falls, second.
