A New Stove For The Kitchen

Friday, May 20, 1853: I am lame. This forenoon John F. and Patrick drew a little stone to the river. This evening John F. went after Doctor Bates for John Merrils’ wife. Doctor Bates came and Merrils paid him 75 cts.
Saturday: I took my horse and wagon and went to East Nassau to Mr. Calhoon’s for John Merrils to try to get a girl to come take care his wife that is sick, but could not get any one to come. Said John Merrils planted corn for me while I was gone to Nassau. I called today to see Elisha Broad for his health is feeble. My girls finished painting kitchen floor, I gave them 50 cts.
Thursday: I this forenoon walked down to the new school house near Harvy Patchings to try to get unslaked lime but could not. This forenoon I burned the soot with straw out of the chimney and helped put the Washington Premium stove in the kitchen for cooking,
Saturday: I this morning called to Mr. Benjamin’s store and paid one dollar and 75 cts for 25 pounds of mackerel. My wife fetched her silk hat and had it altered and ribbon exchanged for it was not done as the agreement was when she sent it the other day.
Saturday, June 4: Tonight Geo P. and wife returned from Lenox and fetched old widow Francis home with them. I paid for a box cough losinges 25 cts that Geo P. bought in Pittsfield. today noon I took my one horse wagon and rode over to my
Rodgers farm where John F. and his hired help was to work and I paid Francis Glass 19 cts for weeding onions and beets.
Monday: I worked on the highway with ox team and plow and John F. worked for me which makes four days I had credited. John F. had his tax credited for the stone he had found to repair sluices, and Geo P. worked with ox team and wagon and had three days credited.
Tuesday: I worked on the highway with the same team and help as yesterday and had four days credited, and Geo P. worked half a day with his ox team and wagon.
Wednesday: I took my one horse wagon and carried nine bags of ears of corn and left to be ground to Adams Mill.
